There's something out there... "Iceland's answer to Stieg Larsson." --Daily Telegraph "Iceland's crime queen." --The Scotsman "Engaging, fresh, and exciting." --James Patterson Yrsa Sigurdardóttir is widely regarded around the world as one of the best Nordic crime writers working today. Yrsa's previous book in the series, Ashes to Dust, also featured lawyer and sometime sleuth Thóra Gudmundsdóttir and received rave reviews internationally. In The Day is Dark, when all contact is lost with two Icelanders working in a harsh and sparsely populated area on the coast of Greenland, Thóra is hired to uncover the fates of the missing people. When she arrives in Greenland, she discovers that these aren't the first two to go missing. The local townspeople believe that the area is cursed, and no one wants to get involved in the case. Soon, Thora finds herself stranded in the middle of a wilderness, and the case is as frightening and hostile as the landscape itself. Chilling, unsettling, and compulsively readable, The Day is Dark is a must read for readers who are looking for the next big thing in crime fiction coming in from the cold.
A chilling new case for Thora Gudmundsdottir, from Iceland's answer to Stieg Larsson. When all contact is lost with two Icelanders working in a harsh and sparsely populated area on the northeast coast of Greenland, Thora is hired to investigate. Is there any connection with the woman who vanished from the site some months earlier? Why are the locals so hostile? And could one of the team staying at the site with Thora be responsible for the disappearances? Already an international bestseller, this fourth book to feature Thora Gudmundsdottir ('a delight' - Guardian) is chilling, unsettling and compulsively readable.

When her sister Patty died, Jenna blamed herself. When Jenna died, she blamed herself for that, too. Unfortunately Jenna died too soon. Living or dead, every soul is promised a certain amount of time, and when Jenna passed she found a heavy debt of time in her record. Unwilling to simply steal that time from the living, Jenna earns every day she leeches with volunteer work at a suicide prevention hotline. But something has come for the ghosts of New York, something beyond reason, beyond death, beyond hope; something that can bind ghosts to mirrors and make them do its bidding. Only Jenna stands in its way. Dusk or Dark or Dawn or Day is a new standalone urban fantasy novella from New York Times bestselling author Seanan McGuire. Themes: Hi-Lo, Good vs. evil, comic format, graphic novel. The first six titles in the Dark Man series are 36-page books designed for young adult struggling readers and even nonreaders who probably have never successfully managed to read a book. The second six titles are 48-page books with a slight degree of progression over the first six and offering a more challenging read. Our six newest 48-page titles (Yellow Series) continue the Dark Man's quest to destroy the evil Shadow Masters. The story text is short and simple but not patronizing. Stories are gritty, full of tension and mystery. The language is terse. The Dark Man is a serious comic Hero with his own methodology. Each book is a self-contained story, but each story is a part of a greater whole. Although each novel reveals a little more about Dark Man, the twelve books can be read in any order: no one story depends on having read another first. The first six stories (Orange) range from 220-420 words. The Green and Yellow Series are 1000 words each. The Shadow Masters have captured a girl, and the Dark Man must rescue her. But the Dark Man knows this girl, and no one is safe near her. She has the face of an angel, but she is a killer.
